Principal’s News

As we approach the end of another school year, the days are filled with special ways to celebrate our students, their families, where we live, and the accomplishments of the year’s studies. Often, as we have fun together, we are reminded of the wonderful quality of life in this community. The confident eagerness of our students reflects the interest and guidance of many caring influences.

The end of the year is a perfect time to say “thank you” to the caring influences in the world of Pine Street students: parents, grandparents, special friends, volunteers, mentors, community and family members who support our efforts with donations of time, knowledge, and occupational information. Pine Street Primary Center is more successful because of your willingness to participate.

As you plan for summer vacation, remember to include activities that help maintain the skills gained during the school year. Please take a few minutes to read the inserts in this newsletter for fun activities to do with your child this summer. Remember also to read everyday with your child. Have fun!

As always, if we can answer any questions, please call us.

News from Our Media Center

Pine Street Primary’s Spring Book Fair was a great success. Sincere thanks to all the parents and community members who assisted and supported this event. The benefit to Pine’s media center was $884 in books and materials. These are great additions to our book shelves.

The last day to check out books from our media center will be May 16. Students should plan to return all books no later than May 23. This will allow our media specialist, Mrs. Cooper, to do inventory of the media center. Students will still go to the media center on their scheduled day but may not check out or bring home any ‘new books’. Please assist us by having your child return books to the media center by May 23.

Medication Note:

I f your child has any medications at school, please pick them up at the end of the school year.
Medications will not be sent home with your student. Any medications left in the office will be disposed of in the summer.

Counselor’s Corner:

I’ve enjoyed my limited role at Pine Street very much this year. It proved an opportunity to get to know the youngest children in our district and I hope I can be of assistance in what is hopefully a smooth transition to Pathfinder Elementary. I’ve also enjoyed working with the wonderful Pine Street staff. I also serve as the counselor at Pathfinder Elementary and Daisy Brook Elementary Schools. As a result of working in our three elementary schools, the actual counseling that I am able to do is limited. At the very least, I can serve as a kind of consultant for parents. I work closely with our community health providers.

If you are ever looking for parenting resources, I do have a large lending library of the Love & Logic parenting materials. These materials are in the form of books, tapes, CD’s, DVD’s, and videos. LoveandLogic.com is a website that offers basic information on this style of parenting strategies.

As of this letter, I still have some day camp scholarships available to Camp Newaygo. Please call 924-7265 as soon as possible for this great opportunity for your child.
