NO SCHOOL for this year’s kindergarten students – next year’s
incoming students visit.
Dear Parents,
Spring is in the air! We – and the robins – know that winter is losing its grip – finally! Soon, flowers will be poking through the soil. The sun’s warmth holds a promise and makes us yearn for ice cream cones, bare feet, and time in our gardens. We are all excited to be outside without heavy winter coats, snow pants, and mittens.
Please pay close attention to communication that comes home to you at this time of year. Many activities are planned including half or no school days, the school carnival, as well as Wacky Week and Spring Break. and Spring Break.
March is also the month when we celebrate the many ways reading enriches our lives. On March 21, we are looking forward to our “March Around and Read” activities. Reading will focus on the books of Leo Lionni throughout the month of March.
Enjoying books and being able to read well are two goals we have for every student. As a parent, you can support our efforts by reading with your child daily. Research has shown that reading with your child during the first five years has a dramatic lifetime effect on your child’s ability to learn. Reading can take many forms from studying a cereal box to cuddling while you read a bedtime story. Most great readers are born on the lap of someone who loves tThere is still time to volunteer at Pine Street Primary Center, or be a part of our Elementary Parent Group. We appreciate all the ways you assist our efforts and enrich the lives of our students. The Elementary Parent Group is still seeking volunteers for the school carnival, March 14. Please contact Becky Strong at 924-1015 or 231-769-7404 if you are interested.
Happy Spring – and happy reading.
Nancy Sparks,
Principal

It’s Time for Spring
by Bobbi Katz
My sweater’s tight and itchy.
My snow pants are too small.
Last week I lost a mitten.
I can’t find my scarf at all!
My woolen socks have lost their toes.
My boots have lost their tread.
And I have lost the love I had
For words like “skis” and “sled”!
But…my fishing rod still fits.
And…my baseball bat still hits.
I have a kite that wants to fly.
So…Winter, call it quits!
Our Visit to the Post Office:
Kindergarten students at Pine Street Primary Center have been busy learning about their community. As part of a Michigan Health Unit on health helpers, the school has been visited by a police officer, a doctor, a dental hygienist, firefighters, and a veterinarian. In addition to health helpers, students have been learning about other occupations that help run and form our community. In mid-February kindergarteners visited the United State Post Office in Fremont to witness postal workers first hand. Students were given a tour of the facility and were able to hand cancel a special Valentine to be sent home. It was a fun, informative trip for all !
READING ROAD TRIP
Our Scholastic Book Fair is scheduled from Monday, April 21 to Thursday, April 24 and we are thrilled to offer this educational experience to our students. This year’s theme is “Reading Road Trip.”
We invite your entire family to participate by visiting us during Book Fair Week. You and your child will get the chance to purchase bestsellers, award winners, picture books, and other great items. We look forward to seeing you during the Book Fair. If you are interested in helping at the Book Fair, please contact our office at 924-3530.
WINTER FUN !
Many students at Pine had fun in the snow during the month of February. All classes experienced using snowshoes around the Pine Street Primary Building! What a great introduction to physical activity in our winter wonderland. We had lots of snow and loads of fun! Many students enjoyed making their first snowman, as well. Mother Nature provided ideal conditions for enjoying our Michigan winters.
Pine Street Students Make Annual Journey to City Hall:
After a six week unit of study on Health Helpers in our Michigan Health curriculum, kindergarteners at Pine Street Primary Center in Fremont recently visited Fremont City Hall for the ninth year in a row. Again this year kindergarten students had the chance to meet the mayor, visit the fire department, see a police car, and tour the council chambers. The city hall trip provides a hands-on experience for students to learn about our local government, meet the people behind the scenes and see emergency equipment up close. Pine Street’s staff would like to thank to Mayor Rynberg, Mr. Yonker, and Mr. Blake, Chief of Police Phil Deur, Officer Hendrie and Firefighter Bell for taking time out of their busy schedules to educate our children! This trip is always a memorable and meaningful experience for all!
