SAFETY ISSUE:
Concerns have been expressed about the drop off area in front of Pine St. Primary Center. We are requesting that parents who are going to come into the building park their cars in the front lot, NOT in the driveway. Those parents who are only going to drop off their children should pull up in front of the building in a single line. Your cooperation with this request is appreciated.
From the Principal
Dear Parents,
We have experienced a variety of weather lately in Michigan and observed a few symptoms of spring fever already. Take time to enjoy the beauty of Michigan and its outdoor winter activities, while they last. Kids and snow equal winter fun!
Students and staff have settled in from vacation and are working hard. As we move toward the second half of the school year, I’d like to share a few reminders with you.
• Winter is a great time for reading. Don’t forget to curl up with your child and a good book every night. Great readers are usually born on someone’s lap.
• Pine Street’s school day begins at 8:02 a.m. and concludes at 3:10 p.m. every day. “Being there on time is important; it is the first step toward learning”.
• Please check the list of “Coming Events” posted on this page; the coming months have many events including half or no school days, Early Release Day, and field trips. Please keep in mind to advise us of any changes in your child’s after school transportation.
“Very Important Persons” from the police department, the fire department, medical profession, and veterinary profession are sharing information about their occupations during the months of January and February. Students will soon be taking a field trip to the city offices to tour the various departments there. They will also tour the Fremont Post Office and mail a postcard to their homes to see how the mail system works.
Pine Street Primary Center students and staff would like to say a special “Thank You” to our VIP presenters during the months of January and February. Their enthusiasm is wonderful for our students to see and encourages them to consider these occupations as their career choices.

Reminders from Our School Nurse:
Due to the number of sick children this time of the year, we want to remind parents not to send children back too quickly after an illness.
If a child has a fever, we ask that they stay home until they have gone a full 24 hours without a fever. This means 24 hours without medication (Tylenol, Motrin, etc.) that will keep the fever down. The same rule would apply to vomiting. Please keep the children home until they have gone 24 hours without vomiting as well. If they do come to school with either of the above problems, we will be calling you to come and pick them up. This is to help prevent the spread of colds and flu to other students.
Also, any prescription medication must have the proper paperwork signed by both the physician and parent.
Winter Clothes By Karla Kuskin
Under my hood I have a hat
And under that
My hair is flat.
Under my coat
My sweater’s blue
My sweater’s red,
I’m wearing two.
My muffler muffles to my chin
And round my neck
And then tucks in.
My gloves were knitted
By my aunts,
I’ve mittens too
And pants,
And pants,
And boots,
And shoes
With socks inside.
The boots are rubber, red and wide.
And when I walk
I must not fall
Because I can’t get up at all.
Counselor’s Corner:
• A parenting class called “TransParenting” will be offered at Grant Primary Center on Feb. 4th & 11th from 6:00 to 8:30p.m.. The class is directed at those parents who have divorced and/or separated. It is aimed to teach parents skills that will enhance the child's ability to transition during this difficult time. The goal of the class is to lessen the negative impact of divorce and parental separation on children. The fee is $10. You may call Deb Miller at 834-7382, ext. 104, to register.
• A reminder that Camp Henry summer camp scholarships will be arriving in my office shortly. These scholarships are made available to our school to assist those that may not be able to afford the cost of camp. As a guideline, families that qualify for free and reduced lunch, typically, are able to use these scholarships. Please contact me if you're interested. Dave Wojcicki 924-7265

CELEBRATING THE HOLIDAY SEASON -
Pine Street Primary’s 2007 Gingerbread House Contest was a great success.
Preceding Christmas, our entries were on display for voting.
To vote, those who viewed the display placed money in the bowls of their favorites.
The voting collected $161.49; the Fremont Area Foundation matching this amount for
the NCCS Children’s Fund.
First place T-shirts went to Mathieu Hannahs and his father, Steve.
December 18 was a full day of fun at Pine Street Primary Center.
All students performed Christmas Programs both morning and afternoon at the Dogwood
Center for the Performing Arts. “Christmas in any Language” was the
theme for this year’s performance. Mrs. Helen Mellema directed our students,
accompanied by Mrs. Sandy Haveman on piano.
Pine Street Primary Center concluded their Christmas Activities on Wednesday, Dec. 19 with “Christmas around the World”. Students and their guests visited different stations making crafts and enjoying food.
Pine Street Primary Center would like to thank all of the parents, grandparents, family, and friends who set aside time to participate and attend out holiday activities and to share this special day! Your time and involvement are so important to our students’ success.
