New trees honor Pathfnder’s past principals
As a warm afternoon breeze gently blew, a crowd of more than 500 students and staff members gathered in the courtyard of Fremont’s Pathfinder Elementary to plant two sunburst maple trees.
The trees were purchased by the Pathfinder Parent Group from Mellema’s Nursery in Fremont and planted just outside the library windows in honor of past principals John Fazer and Jeff Worman.
Fazer, a long-time member of the Fremont educational community who was also instrumental in the building of Pathfinder, was the school’s first principal from 1997 to 2002. He is now the Superintendent of Holton Public Schools. Worman was Pathfinder’s second principal, from 2002 until his retirement in 2007.
Pathfinder Parent Group President Diane Smith and Fremont Board of Education President Anita Osterman, along with several school district administrators with ties to both principals, attended the outdoor ceremony on Tuesday, Nov. 13.
Pathfinder Principal Bob Cassiday hosted a brief reception following the dedication ceremony. Many students and teachers took time to share a few memories while munching cookies and drinking punch furnished by Larry Lounsbery,
