From the Principal’s Desk:

We now have the state MEAP results, so here is how Fremont compared to the state:

We continue to review and analyze the data and see where we need to make changes in the delivery of our curriculum.

With spring weather and the end of school approaching, I find we have more discipline issues, especially in the unstructured times – i.e. before school and during recreation. If you drop off your child, it is helpful to do it closer to 8:00 a.m. The traffic pattern in the morning is not as congested at that time. For the safety of all students, please use the designated area. It is unsafe when students are dropped along the sidewalk or across the road. Mrs. Ward, the crossing guard, has been instructed not to allow traffic to the front of the building while elementary students are boarding the buses in the back of the building from 7:30 to 8:05 a.m. and 3:07 to 3:20 p.m.

Please be aware of what clothing your children are wearing when they leave home. Jeans with excessive holes, whether above or below the knee, are not acceptable and must be covered up. Shorts, skirts, and dresses must extend beyond a closed fist. Tops must be at least 4 fingers wide and the opening for the arms must fit snugly against the body. No see through, mesh or low cut shirts, no bare midriffs or sagging pants allowed.

Notes from Athletics:

Track and tennis continue for our students. Thanks to Coach Hansen, Coach Elmer, Coach McBride, and Coach Tuls for their direction of our fine young athletes. As noted in last month’s newsletter, circle May 13, on your calendars. This is the evening that free physicals are available at Fremont High School. Report times are for grade levels as of next school year:

6:30-6:45    6th and 7th grade girls

6:45-7:00    8th grade girls

8:30-8:40    8th grade boys

8:40-8:55    6th and 7th grade boys

Even if your child is not sure he/she wants to participate in any sports next year, this is a great opportunity to make sure it is done before the 2008/2009 school year begins. Your son/daughter can bring home a form for you to complete prior to May 13, or forms will be available the night of the physicals. Physicals are required for each school year, not calendar year.

Benefit for Mrs. Angie Kurtz:

We have an opportunity to help one of our own – Angie Kurtz, who is currently on medical leave from her FMS teaching assignment. A truly amazing young woman, Angie continues to be an inspiration to all of us. Here’s some additional information:

Three years ago, at the age of 29, Angie was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer. She is currently undergoing treatment at the Detroit Karmanos Cancer Institute. Angie is not able to work and her treatment requires traveling and lodging expenses in Detroit. On May 31st, there will be a benefit spaghetti dinner and auction for her and her family.
