FHS musicians receive high marks at state
Eight Fremont High School Band and Orchestra students qualified for the state Solo and Ensemble competition, which was held on March 15 at Central Michigan University.
In order to qualify for the state competition, musicians must receive a I rating at the regional competition. The state competition, unlike the regional, requires the students to perform their pieces, sight-read, and be able to play any scales that their judges might ask them to play.
This year’s qualifiers include sophomores Alicia Juengel (cello), Kaitlin Klemp (clarinet), Rachel Voyt (violin) and Heather Warfield (viola); juniors Kerrie Baker (French horn) and Audrey Jansma (viola/violin), and senior Shany Briggs (violin).
The students who received No. 1 rating included Shany Briggs and Audrey Jansma in a violin-viola duet, Kerrie Baker (Proficiency II) Audrey Jansma (Proficiency II), Kaitlin Klemp (Proficiency I) and Rachel Voyt (Proficiency I).
