The Fremont High School varsity softball team finished the first week of the season with a 3-4 record.

After winning a doubleheader at Orchard View (21-10 and 14-8), the Packers split games with Holton by scores of 10-7 and 5-10.

On Saturday, the Fremont team participated in a tournament at Rockford, where the Packers dropped three games. The Pack lost the first game to Rockford (11-1), lost the second game to Byron Center (12-4) and dropped the last game to Grand Rapids Christian in extra innings (7-6).

Sophomore third baseman Marissa Alverson is leading the team in hitting with a .522 batting average, which includes three out-of-the-park home runs. She also leads the team with 8 RBI’s.

Sophomore Mandie Kotecki, who plays catcher and first base, is batting .385 with 7 RBI’s and two home runs. Sophomore pitcher Rachel Walker is hitting .348 with 5 RBI’s and freshman catcher and first baseman Genny Frendo is batting .346 with 6 RBI’s. Senior Courtney Dupras leads the team in stolen bases with 4.

Sophomores Walker and Kara Robart and freshman Anne Abendroth have been handling the pitching duties for the Packers. Robart leads the team with 12 strikeouts and a 5.20 earned run average.
