Fremont athletes set new personal records

On Friday and Saturday, Nov. 7 and 8, the Fremont High School swim team competed in the conference meet at the new Spring Lake High School Aquatics Center.

It was an exciting weekend for the Packer girls. The spectator seating area was filled to capacity. The preliminaries were held on Friday afternoon. Only the top 16 girls in each indi vidual event would advance to swim in the finals on Saturday. The motivating music and the competitive environment encouraged many of the girls to swim their best times.

The athletes who swam their personal best times on Friday included Kaylah Berndt, Megan Bridges, Jordon Crandell, Elisha Hanson, Casey Johnson, Whitney Jones, Destiny Noordyk, Aimie Reinhold, Stephanie Rodgers, Paige Rosenberg, Alyssa Scott, Sarah Sikanas and Emily Yonker.

Jordon Crandell, Brooke Matthews, Destiny Noordyk, Sarah Sikanas and Emily Yonker all advanced to the finals in their individual events. On Saturday even more spectators filled the stands to watch the exciting event. Again, many of the Fremont swimmers swam their best times.

Noordyk took third in the 100-yard backstroke with a state qualifying time of 1:06.17. Noordyk also won a fourth place medal in the 200IM (individual medley).

Matthews placed ninth in the 100 yard freestyle, and 10th in the 50 yard freestyle. Casey Johnson took 12th place in the 50 yard free style. Sikanas placed 11th in the 100 yard breast stroke, and 13th in the 100 yard fly. Crandell took 16th place in both the 200 yard freestyle and the 500 yard freestyle. Yonker placed 16th in the 100 yard backstroke.

The 200 yard medley relay team of Noordyk, Sikanas, Felicia Trevino and Matthews won fifth place, and the second Fremont medley relay placed 11th with swimmers Whitney Jones, Katie Pikaart, Ashley Robinson and Casey Johnson.

The 200 yard freestyle relay team of Kara Robart, Johnson, Matthews and Trevino placed fifth. The second Fremont 200 yard freestyle relay team of Yonker, Stephanie Rodgers, Paige Rosenberg and Jessica Hawkins placed 12th.

The 400 yard freestyle team of Whitney Jones, Annie Niquette, Emily Yonker and Aimie Reinhold placed sixth, while the sec ond 400 yard freestyle relay team of Ashley Robinson, Tara Weaver, Megan Bridges and Jordon Crandell placed 10th.
