FROM LOCAL REPORTS

Spotting Orchard View's soccer team a one-goal lead just seemed to fire up Fremont.

The Cardinals scored first on a goal by freshman Zach Sutton, but the Packers answered back with four straight and hung on for a 4-3 victory Tuesday in Lakes 8 action.

After Sutton's goal, the Packers reeled off goals by Bent Vandenedal, Tony Chandonnet and two from Reed Luchies for a 4-1 lead.

"We settled down and rallied after they scored first," said Fremont coach Steve Vissia.

But the Cardinals weren't finished. Two goals early in the second half, one from Jamie Nunez and another from Sutton, pulled OV within a goal with 30 minutes remaining.

"They definitely had their chances," said Vissia, whose team is 4-1-1, 1-0. "We got a little sloppy toward the end."

Grant 5, Newaygo 4 -- Host Grant took a 4-0 lead into halftime and held on for the win. Marcos Ochoa scored the Tigers' first three goals and Jorge Bravo added the final first-half tally. Newaygo scored four minutes into the second half before Alex Yanex scored to give Grant a 5-1 lead. The Lions scored the next three goals, including two on penalty kicks to pull within one goal with a minute left. Grant (5-0-1, 1-0) finished with a 25-8 shot advantage.

Fruitport 8, Tri-County 0 -- Host Fruitport took a 7-0 lead by halftime. The Trojans' Jake Laufersky and Cody Kryfka scored two goals apiece while Josh Smith, Josh Price, Jordan Laufersky and Mark Geile added solo goals. Fruitport (4-2, 1-0) finished with a 21-0 shot advantage.
