Fremont played well at the Fremont Invitational on May 5 at Briar Hill. Fremont’s Red Team placed third overall. Kenowa Hills won the 15-team tournament with a score of 305.
Fremont’s White Team placed 11th with a total score of 399. Joe Ermatinger shot a 73 which placed him in second place among all the golfers. Tyler Krim shot 79 to tie for 10th place.
Alex Harmon shot an 82, Rob Content shot an 83 and Zach McGinn shot a 90. Fremont’s White Team included Ben Blamer 86; Joe Deur 94; Kryzs Lower 104; Alex Zapletal 111; and Devin Wilson 111.
At the Fruitport Jamboree on May 7 at the Terra Verde Golf Course, Fremont placed third. Ermatinger shot a 35, McGinn 42, Blamer 43, and Harmon 45.
In the final standings for the league, Ludington placed first, Spring Lake placed second and Fremont placed third.
Joe Ermatinger was named first team all conference and he had the second lowest stroke total in the league.
“Joe played some excellent golf this year in the league events and all other events for that matter," said Coach Wojcicki. "Joe’s stroke average for the four events was an impressive 37.8 for nine holes.”
Tyler Krim earned honorable mention all conference honors.
The team is now focusing on preparing for the state tournament. Fremont has been state ranked as high as sixth in its division this year. Coach Wojcicki was noted as saying, “It is an honor to the players that their play has been recognized by those folks doing the rankings as a team with a lot of promise,” Wojcicki said, "but, the fact of the matter is that the rankings, or promise of this team, don’t hit the ball for them in the state tournament. We have a wonderful opportunity ahead of us and I hope the players are as excited as I am about their challenge."
The Packers have three dual matches and the Oiler Invitational in Mt. Pleasant ahead of them before heading north to Gaylord for districts on May 22.
