Both FHS bowling teams roll in state finals

The Fremont High School girls bowling team made its first appearance in the state championship tournament and the Packer boys placed fifth in their fourth consecutive trip to the state finals.

The young Fremont girls placed 18th at the state finals.

“This was a learning experience for our girls,” said Coach Justin Moon. “They are very young yet. Most of the girls are in the 10th grade. We will be back next year.”

On the boys’ side, they made the cut after the qualifying play and were seeded number one. They then faced the regional champs from Grand Rapids Northview. Fremont had a total pinfall of 1761 and Northview had a total pinfall of 1828, which was good enough to beat the Packers, who finished in fifth place.

Both teams had a great season. The Fremont girls finished tied for first in the conference, took third at regionals (missing second place by four pins) and made it to state for the first time in the team’s six years.

The guys are on a roll when it comes to making it to state, and are looking forward to making it for the fifth straight year next season.

The Fremont High School girls varsity bowling team includes seniors Stacey Cazier and Abi Struble, juniors Maria Hopkins, Kara Ingersoll and Ashley Walker; sophomores Alicia Brummel, Britney Nadeau and Katie Pikaart; and freshman Melissa Morgan.

The FHS boys team includes seniors Michael Bodwin, Donovan Garbula, Justin MacLean, Mike Morgan and Josh Thomas; juniors Kenny Deur and Gabe Vickey; sophomores Alex Harmon, Mike Hile and Travis Hunt; and freshmen Zach Brandt and Robert Routley.
