Boys Varsity Basketball 2/29/2008 District Final Whitehall

Fremont 52 Whitehall 36

Usually known for offensive prowess, the Packers used the defensive end to avenge last season’s disappointing district tournament loss to Whitehall. The Packers led 11-10 after the first quarter, then finished the half on a 14-7 run for a 25-17 halftime lead. The Vikings cut the lead to seven after three quarters, when Fremont again turned up the intensity on the defensive side of the ball. The Packers limited Whitehall to just six fourth quarter points to pull away and move on to Coopersville for the “B” Regional. Fremont’s seniors took the reigns as J.G. led the way with 22 points and fellow guard Sean Hendon added 11 points. Senior forwards Matt Taggart and Zach Derks controlled the glass as the duo combined for 16 rebounds. The Pack’s defense held area-leading scorer Jaren Edsall to just eight points on the night.
