The Fremont High School varsity baseball team wrapped-up its conference schedule and second place with a sweep of visiting Spring Lake, 7-6 and 8-6.

Max Morrison went the distance for the win, assisted by three hits off the bat of Cody Vanderweide and two each from Matt Terveer and Mike Mangin. In the nightcap, Alex Harmon plated two Packers with a game-winning triple and Terveer and Vanderweide added two more hits apiece.

At 5/3rd Park, the Pack matched up with cross county rival Grant and for the third time this year, won it in the bottom of the seventh on a two out bases loaded single from Morrison. Mangin went the distance for the win. Vanderweide continued to exemplify “taking one for the team” as he was plunked for the 14th time this season.

“Max just keeps getting big hits for us and has proven to be a real spark plug for our team,” said Packer coach Steve Luchies. ”Mangin pitched a gem and did more than I could have asked of him.”

Luchies’ squad enters the playoffs having posted the team’s first winning season in 20 years, 18-10-1.
