The Fremont High School varsity baseball team started the week in an exciting fashion, knocking off Ludington in a pair of games, 3-2 and 10-6. The first game went into extra innings and with two outs in the bottom of the eighth, Matt Terveer smoked a drive over the centerfielder’s head to bring in the winning run Andy Harrington went the distance, allowing just three hits and adding two hits of his own to help the cause.
In the second game, the Orioles yielded seven errors that opened the door for some timely Packer hits enroute to the sweep. T.J. Davis had three hits and Harrington added two more in the win. Max Morrison picked up the complete game win, striking out five.
“I am really proud of my guys,” said Fremont coach Steve Luchies. “The first game could have gone either way, but we carried some momentum after getting out of a late inning jam.”
“In the second game, our defense rose up to make some good plays,” he added. “Ludington made a few errors and we were able to capitalize by putting the ball in play.”
Later in the week, the Packers dropped two to Whitehall, 10-0 and 5-4. Harrington had two hits in the nightcap.
