Fremont jumped all over Orchard View in a doubleheader matchup last week, sweeping the Cardinals 16-1 and 12-0.

Andy Harrington won the first game, holding the home team to just two hits. Jared Vandenberg and Max Morrison each tallied three hits in the win. In the nightcap, sophomore Noland Ensing fired a one-hitter in his varsity debut. Morrison’s two doubles accounted for 3 RBI’s to pace the Packer attack in the conference matchup.

On Friday, Morrison tossed a no-hitter against neighboring rival Holton in the first game. The game remained undecided until the bottom of the seventh. With two outs, freshman Wade Paris doubled then scored on a clutch single off the bat of Mac Houston to seal the victory.

In the second game, the momentum continued from the emotional win in the opener as the Packers pounded out 14 runs on 14 hits to sweep the Red Devils. Matt Terveer had three hits and Vandenberg drove in three runs. Jeremy Taylor added a triple to the offensive onslaught.

“If we continue to combine our hot hitting with good pitching and the solid defensive play we’ve had, we’re going to be in a position to win some ballgames,” said coach Steve Luchies, whose squad started the season 4-0.
