Get Connected with Fremont Public Schools

You and I are busy people. We have no real opportunity to get together for a chat. Yet we do have new ways we can “talk.” That’s the point of In the Loop: a format for sharing with you regular insights of life at Fremont Public Schools.

Please share In the Loop with your friends. Or have them send me their email address, and I’ll send it to them personally.

AUTOMATIC EXTERNAL DEFIBRILATORS

By Mr. Tom Palmer

The Maintenance staff has worked feverishly to get the new AED’s placed in their cabinets. We now have 24/7 access to these life saving machines. For your information they are found in the following locations: 1. High School gym, located on the east wall by the south exits. 2. Pool, located on the north wall just west of the pool office window. 3. Middle School gym, located on the west wall just to the north of the gym office door. Each AED is in a cabinet which feature’s an alarm that will sound if the door is opened.

TERRY GRABIL’S SCIENCE FACTS – VOLUME 2

Don't teach these!

1. Daddy Long-Legs are NOT spiders! They're harvestmen. Different class within the arthropod phylum.

2. Deer do NOT have horns. Antlers are bone, and are regrown each year. Horns are Kerotin and grow throughout life. Only split-hoofed ruminants have horns.

3. This is my favorite...Islands do not float. They are not on a stalk or anchored. They are a high point in the lake/ocean floor. (I was astounded at the responses I got when I asked my 8th graders to diagram an island underwater!)

4. Toads (and especially frogs) do NOT have nor can they transmit warts....jeez

FOOTBALL PREPARES FOR THE PLAYOFFS

The Fremont Packers traveled to Big Rapids to play a “home” game with the Cardinals and came away victorious. Our field was so waterlogged we could not play there. Next up for the team are the playoffs. Congratulations to Coach Mark Houston and the team. We have the playoff football game this Friday at 7:00pm in Remus. We play against Chippewa Hills High School at their field.
Directions to the field. Take M20 east to Remus. As you enter town on M20 you will come to a downtown intersection. This is M66. Go north until you see the High School.

MRSA STAPH INFECTION IN SCHOOLS

We have had 3 cases of MRSA in our school district. 2 cases were discovered a couple of weeks ago and 1 case recently. We have been in constant contact with the hospital folks and have cleaned and disinfected all appropriate areas as per the guidelines. We will be distributing brochures to parents next week with information detailing how to deal with MRSA. Thanks to Tom Palmer, Maureen Taggart, Dr. Kevin Gerth and Scott Sherman for their quick response to the matter.

A new fact sheet has been added to the CDC Web site to assist with questions about MRSA in school settings.
