In the Loop
Get Connected with Fremont Public Schools
You and I are busy people. We have no real opportunity to get together for a chat. Yet we do have new ways we can “talk.” That’s the point of In the Loop: a format for sharing with you regular insights of life at Fremont Public Schools.
Please share In the Loop with your friends. Or have them send me their email address, and I’ll send it to them personally.

1. S3:
On Wednesday, September 19, we had a terrific turnout for our lunch and evening meetings with the community. Over 50 people joined us to give their input on these key questions. 1. What do you see as the key issues we will face in the next five years? And 2. What will it take to get our children to the point of being world-ready? On October 10 at 6:30 to 9:30 you are again invited to help us sort the data collected into 3-5 goal areas. These goal areas will then be assign to individual task force committees to develop some action plans and recommendation. We would love to have you help us continue this strategic thinking. We want to work closely with you to prepare our children for a profoundly different future. Join us and help shape the education of our children in the 21st Century.
2. Did You Know –
Below is a repeat of an article I wrote last year to inform our public about the world we live in. I think it is always a good reminder as we think about our direction in the 21st century.
Did You Know?
I want to share with you a fascinating look about the challenges education faces in our technological age. The information from the Michigan Department of Education was designed as a PowerPoint presentation - in itself a relatively new technology - which I will share with you in excerpts over the next few weeks.
Please stay with me on this. It truly should make all of us pause, and wonder.
Sometimes size does matter.
If you’re 1 in a million in China…there are 1,300 people just like you.
In India, there are 1,100 people just like you.
The 25% of the population in China with the highest IQ’s…is greater than the total population of North America.
In India it’s the top 28%.
Translation for teachers: they have more honors kids than we have kids.
Did you know…
China will soon become the number one English-speaking country in the world.
If you took every single job in the U.S. today and shipped it to China…China would still have a labor surplus.
The U.S. Department of Labor estimates that today’s learner will have 10-14 jobs…by the age of 38.
According to the U.S. Department of Labor…1 out of 4 workers today is working for a company he has been employed by for less than one year. More than 1 out of 2 are working at their current job for less than 5 years.
The top 10 in-demand jobs in 2010 didn’t exist in 2004.
Question for teachers: how do we prepare our students for 14 different jobs and several different careers?
We are currently preparing students for jobs that don’t yet exist…using technologies that haven’t been invented…in order to solve problems we don’t even know are problems yet.
Question for administrators: how do we do this?
Name this country…
▪Richest in the world
▪Largest military
▪Center of world business and finance
▪Strongest education system
▪World center of innovation and invention
▪Currency the world standard of value
▪Highest standard of living
England. In 1900.
Do you perceive a trend?
