You and I are busy people. We have no real opportunity to get together for a chat. Yet we do have new ways we can “talk.” That’s the point of In the Loop: a format for sharing with you regular insights of life at Fremont Public Schools.

Thank you for your support of the May 6 Millage Renewal

Thank you for your support of the 18 mill non homestead millage renewal. Every one of you that voted made a difference since it was such a low voter turnout. Your confidence in our school system is not unnoticed by those of us that work here. We appreciate your vote of confidence as we continue to strive to educate all the students in Fremont Public Schools.

Congratulations Class of 2008 – They break new scholarship record - $1.2 million

Sunday June 1 proved to be an outstanding day for the graduation of some outstanding young people. A crowd of 2500 people along with 55 teachers witnessed a beautiful day in which 165 seniors graduated from Fremont High School. The band and orchestra played well, choir sang terrifically, our student speakers were inspiring and country music star John Berry gave the keynote as well as sang his hit, “Graduation Song”. Congratulations to Mr. Scott Sherman, Assistant Principal Deb Wightman and Fremont’s terrific teaching and support staff for your work with these young people. Congratulations Class of 2008

Another landmark was set by this class of 2008. The class of 2008 was awarded over 1.2 million dollars in scholarship monies.  The scholarships won were offered from a range of local to national sources.  A large portion of the scholarships, over $200,000, were generously awards through local foundations including the Fremont Area Community Foundation and the Gerber Foundation.  The Michigan Promise scholarships, a total of $272,000., was given by the State of Michigan for students who attained a 1 or 2 in all core areas on the Michigan Merit Examination (MME) which all students take in their junior year of high school.  Other scholarships included school, community and college scholarships that students could apply for based on their particular accomplishments, career choice and interests.  Each year, there are millions of dollars worth of scholarships nationwide that are not utilized.  If you would like more information on how to access these monies for your future senior, a great resource is www.fastweb.com.  Also, watch the FHS Announcements and Senior Newsletters for local scholarship opportunities.

Congratulations to our students who submitted entries to the regional state competition.

Of the 99 regional entries, 85 qualified for State, about 70 State placers, 30 1st-3rd place plaque winners, Andy Zapletal was the divisional winner in patternmaking with a cool c-clamp project.  The projects are in the hall by the FHS office /shop hallway until about Thursday.  Please stop by and check them out.  Attached is the list of regional and state placers.

Choice Schools

As the June 1 application deadline approaches for the Newaygo County Schools of Choice program, I want to take a few moments to thank those parents who chose Fremont schools for their children this year.

I hope, during the school year, we made an exceptional impression on you and your children, that you began to discover for yourself our exceptional opportunities, and have begun to see the exceptional results that are possible here.

We work hard from the beginning to make an exceptional impression on our students - to plant in them a life-long love for learning. We continue, through their school years, to make lasting impressions through personalized instruction, hands-on learning, integrated technology, and many other services and programs.

We want nothing less that the exceptional for our students, which is why we offer a wide variety of opportunities to excel academically, socially, and personally. At the high school level alone, we offer more than 150 courses, ranging from basic learning to Advanced Placement and college classes.

Beyond academics, we offer countless opportunities for social and personal growth through field trips, assemblies, and service learning projects, even at the youngest ages. As our students grow, so does the number of opportunities they may choose. Our high school students may select from more than four dozen extra-curricular offerings.

The results of these opportunities are exceptional. Students here excel academically, socially, and personally. Students score well above the state average in key tests, such as MEAP and the ACT. From kindergarten through fifth grade, Fremont’s MEAP scores have proven again to be as good, or better, as anywhere in the state.

If your children attended Pathfinder Elementary, Daisy Brook Elementary, or Fremont Middle School, they attended schools that have earned an “A” grade from the Michigan Department of Education. And the high school, with a “B” grade, isn’t far behind.

We believe we offer every student exceptional impressions, exceptional opportunities, and exceptional results. We are glad you have chosen Fremont schools to help your children on their learning journey.

Cheap gas price locator

This is pretty nifty. Just enter your  zip code in the site below, and it tells you which gas stations have the cheapest prices (and the highest) on gas  in your zip code area. It's updated every evening.
